Merry Christmas to you and your lucky family!
Just to keep things interesting this festive week, I will not be on my usual soapbox; instead I wanted to pass along musical inspiration.
Here is the playlist for your 2013 MIXED Tape – The “Parenting Mixed Tape” you can (and hopefully) will make for inspiration.
The following songs inspire ME to be a better father and to never take for granted my vital role and the privilege of being a dad.
As the father of both a little boy and girl, I’m open to lots of songs. Some are these are great lumpy throat songs that make you want to find your children and hug them tight (especially “Little Guy” from Canadian gem Gord Bamford).
As a DJ in my other life, www.djhaymaker.com, I love music and I am always searching for the next great song. When providing music and entertainment for 60+ weddings a year, I pay special attention to the slideshow songs as well as the special parent dances – some of those cracked this elite list of killers.
IMHO, here are the BEST DAD songs of all time!!
(I have given you just enough songs to fill a sweet mixed tape…)

Yes, most of these lyrical masterpieces are country – but don’t judge me or the list! If you can spare a few moments, have a listen and prepare to be moved!
This list might inspire a great gift for the Dad (make him a sweet Mixed Tape or CD playlist (lame) of cool tracks. These tunes are emotional, inspiring, and fun!
I look forward to your feedback…
These are my favourites… What songs are your favourites?

Nice one, Jeff! I love all these songs and have been using them myself at weddings for either the appropriate moments (when needed), or else simply as background music during dinner. Don’t be shy about the country, man – I love it! Especially today’s country – I find it really nice to listen to when making dinner at home – it’s very down to earth and relaxing. I actually love that song “Little Guy” and had used it on a video I made for my son’s first birthday. It worked perfectly and was definitely a tear-jerker! As an aside, here’s another couple of good ones for Fathers & Daughters:
“It Won’t Be Like This For Long” by Darius Rucker
“Without You” by Keith Urban
Another one of my fav’s is “Chicken Fried” by the Zac Brown Band. Not really mom or dad specific, but a great “feel-good-family-type” of song. Anyways, love the post (as always) and I hear you loud and clear!
Hey Dave,
Thanks for the song choices — of course another DJ would have some gems!
The Darius Rucker was definitely on my radar but could crack the chart! Perhaps I will have to reconsider…
Thanks for the continued support!
Cheers,
Jeff
I love your list, but I think you left out one of the greatest Father-Daughter songs of all time:
This Moment – Steven Curtis Chapman
If you’ve never heard it you must!
Sorry, its called “Cinderella.”
Hey Madison!
Too True – I have played “Stealing Cinderella” for a wedding — great song — I forgot about that one!
Thanks for your input — I look forward to hearing from you again!
